The Adventure of a Lifetime
For Father's Day, 1999 my family got together and bought me voyage crew passage on the HM Bark Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook's Ship in which He explored the Pacific. I have always been enchanted by the idea of sailing a tall ship, and being able to go on this trip was my fantasy come true.
Voyage Crew positions are trained quickly and efficiently by the Permanent Crew, and they basically operate the ship completely on the first day at sea and thereafter, under supervision of course. The Voyage Crew members climb the masts, handle ropes and rigging, and learn alot in a very short time.
On Aug 2, the Endeavour, with me aboard, set sail from Astoria, Oregon with a Permanent Crew of 14 and a Voyage Crew of 36. Our destination...Westport, Washington in Gray's Harbor. It was a beatiful day and a beautiful trip, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I have scanned some pictures for your enjoyment. I hope you like them.
